Thumbs Up High 5K event details

The first ever Thumbs Up High 5K Walk, Run, Bike and Blade will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in downtown Elk River.

The Thumbs Up High 5K event was created to spread awareness about depression, mental health and suicide awareness.

Registration is available at (under Thumbs Up High 5K). It is being organized by a team of volunteers and is being hosted by McCoy’s Irish Pub.

Same day registration will also be available.

Here’s the schedule of events:

–Registration check-in,  7:30-9:30 a.m.; T-shirts will not be guaranteed for same-day registrations.

–Azitala warm-up yoga,  9-9:20 a.m.; grassy  area and stairs in River’s Edge Commons Park.

 –Opening ceremonies and guest honorary speaker Joe Schmit, 9:30 a.m.

–Introduction to Prevent 7, a bully prevention group led by Nick Micek, 9:45 a.m.

–Memorial balloon release, 9:50 a.m.

–Heat 1: Bikers begin at 10 a.m.

–Heat 2: In-line skaters begin at 10:05 a.m.

–Heat 3: Runners begin at  10:10 a.m.

–Heat 4: Walkers begin at   10:15 a.m.

–Azitala recovery yoga, 10:40 a.m.

–1K run for kids, 11:30 a.m. (lower level of parking lot below the Sunshine Depot)

–Live band and post-race festivities, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.;  face painting, bounce house, crazy hair by Little Rejuvenation Station, tattoos, free yoga and massages as well as many vendors to provide information on available services in the community.
